Gerrard would consider Liverpool exit - Three key questions and reaction

Steven Gerrard Celebrates

Steven Gerrard has confirmed he'll play on next season, regardless of whether that's at Liverpool or not.

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has confirmed that he will play on beyond this season and has revealed that he will do so away from Anfield, if the Reds decide not to renew his contract.

That’s about as likely as Gerrard upping sticks and signing a deal with Manchester United and surely it’s only a matter of time before Brendan Rodgers urges the club to extend his contract by at least a year.

“As it stands at the moment, I'm here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it. I certainly won't be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season,” he told the Telegraph.

“We will have to wait and see if that's at Liverpool or somewhere else. That's Liverpool's decision.”

We’ve considered three key questions and looked at reaction from Liverpool fans based on Gerrard’s above comments.

Why wouldn’t Liverpool offer him a deal?

Age and the fact he can’t play as many games as he used to are the only possible reasons. However, they are poor excuses considering his proven quality and experience in all competitions.

What sort of deal could he get?

A one-year rolling deal would probably be Liverpool’s most likely option. It provides Gerrard with the option of retiring when he wants to and ensures the club don’t have to over commit financially.

Where would he go if he did leave?

It would be difficult for him to stay in the Premier League. Gerrard has often spoken of potentially playing abroad and the chances he’s had to do so throughout his career. France, Spain, Germany and Italy would all be possibilities.

Here’s what Liverpool fans have had to say about the possibility of his exit.
