Paul Merson anticipates a heavy beating this weekend, as he predicts his former club Arsenal to slay Burnley by five goals to nil.
"I think Arsenal are waiting to rip someone up."
Those are the words of former Gunners midfielder Paul Merson, a two-time title winner with the North Londoners, who wrote in his Sky Sports prediction column that their weekend opponents Burnley could be in for a devastating defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Since losing to Chelsea and failing to oversee Hull City at home, Arsenal have bounced back by defeating Anderlecht in Belgium and triumphing over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.
Merson believes the club are on the cusp of hot form and could demonstrate that by annihilating Burnley by a score of five goals to nil.
"If they don’t win here and they don’t win next week then the international break comes and they could be into December without winning a football match.
"For me, they are starting to hit a brick wall already," he said. "As for Arsenal, I can see them hitting five here."
Out of all Arsenal's current performers, it is Alexis Sanchez who is the likeliest Gunner to enter the match with the intent to return goals. The club could also be buoyed by the return of Walcott, who proved devastatingly effective up front when deployed last season.
