Hazard is one of the Blues standout players, and is part of the new era at Stamford Bridge characterised by youth and free-spirited play.
The new era has seen just one of the so-called ‘old guard’ remain in West London since the return of head coach Jose Mourinho, with club captain John Terry remaining a key part of the Blues defensive unit - despite turning 34-years-old later this year.
Whilst his advancing years mean that he features in less match action than he used to - with Champions League and League Cup fixtures generally avoided by the former England captain - his experience as a player means that he is a valuable member in the Chelsea dressing room, and Eden Hazard believes that Terry’s presence in the side reduces the pressures felt by the younger players in the squad.
Speaking to the Standard, 23-year-old Hazard said: “I would never say I don’t feel pressure — pressure is always here at Chelsea.
“I know in football you can be one of the best and maybe two weeks later one of the worst. It’s why you can never say ‘I am the best’. It’s an education.
“That is why John Terry is very important, not just for me but for the young players. He is a legend here, but is a big brother to all the younger guys.
“It’s always good when I speak with him. He gives me a lot of confidence because he is the captain. We are happy to have this guy in the team.
“When I joined he just told me to enjoy myself on the pitch and try to score goals for Chelsea. For me everything is good here.”
Having spent his entire playing career as a Chelsea player, Terry has won three Premier League titles, numerous domestic cups, as well as lifting the Champions League trophy in 2012 - despite not playing in the final due to suspension. He is one of the few members of the current squad to have experience of winning silverware in England, and his presence will be vital with the Blues looking at fighting for four trophies this season.
Whilst Eden Hazard may receive all the plaudits for his attacking flair this season, Terry may just prove to be the most valuable player in the Chelsea ranks this season.
