Lassana Diarra has had quite the career.
The journeyman has been everywhere from Arsenal and Chelsea to Portsmouth and Real Madrid, while also spending his last two years in Russia with Anzhi Makhachkala and Lokomotiv Moscow.
Never, though, has the 29-year-old played in Scotland. But now that Diarra is a free agent after having left Lokomotiv, that could well change.
Indeed, according to various reports, the defensive midfielder is in talks with Ronny Deila's side over signing a contract until the end of the current campaign. And Celtic fans are certainly excited by the prospect.
During his years in the Premier League and La Liga, Diarra has picked up an abundance of experience and know-how and could be just what the Bhoys need in midfield. A slow start to their campaign has been consigned to the past in recent weeks, with big wins in the SPL, Europa League and Scottish League Cup building confidence at Parkhead.
But what a boost signing a former Champions League midfielder would bring to Celtic.
One problem remains, however, if the reports are true in the first place: Diarra's wages. The 29-year-old earned a considerable weekly sum in Moscow and has done so throughout his career (he would hardly have been on tuppence with the Gunners and the Blues). And, in reacting to the news on Twitter, Celtic fans have identified as much.
Salaries aside, though, the Bhoys want their man...
If we get even a fraction of the form Lassana Diarra showed a few year ago this could be a real coup— Conor MacPhee. (@MacPhee92) October 31, 2014
Lassana Diarra rumour is quite exciting. Him and Scott Brown sitting back with Johansen playing an advanced role would have good balance.— Tam Selleck (@TomSelleckCSC) October 31, 2014
I wonder if Celtic know anything about Lassana Diarra being in Scotland or is his agent just trying to generate some interest. #BigBigWages— RhebelRhebel (@RhebelRhebel) October 31, 2014
