Tottenham on alert as Destro scores, hints at leaving

Roma striker Mattia Destro scored against Cesena last night, but the Tottenham target has warned that he might be tempted to leave.

Mattia Destro helped Roma to victory at the Stadio Olimpico, but he has worried supporters by admitting that he can't discount a transfer.

The talented marksman has been somewhat frustrated with the lack of regular first-team football for Roma despite establishing himself in the Italian national side.

Over the last few months, Tottenham have reportedly been keeping an eye on Destro and it seems that the Azzurri star may be tempted by a move.

Destro scored in the eighth minute against Cesena, converting a simple tap-in after being set up by former Arsenal forward Gervinho.

But after the game he didn't seem entirely content with his current position in the Eternal City and Italian newspaper Il Tempo ran the headline: "Destro scores and threatens to leave".

"Am I disappointed by a lack of space in the first team? Those are the coach's decisions," he said on Tele Radio Stereo.

"I try to take advantage of every chance. Some people speak with their voice, I speak on the field.

"I think too and  I make decisions with my head. So we’ll see what happens."

It was suggested in the summer that Roma's heavy spending may see them become willing to let an asset such as Destro leave.

Whether Tottenham can match the valuation, which is said to be around £16 million, remains to be seen.
