Here are our player ratings for the Tottenham Hotspur players against Brighton last night.
Tottenham didn’t produce their best performance to win against Brighton in the League Cup, but they did enough to get over the line.
It was a significant match for manager Mauricio Pochettino and several players, with Kyle Naughton returning to the starting line-up after an ankle problem, which has kept him out in recent weeks.
Here are our player ratings for the game.
Vorm – 6
Didn’t have a great deal of work to do, which is a tribute to how effective the back four were.
Naughton – 7
Worked hard throughout the game. Looked fresh and hungry wherever he was on the pitch.
Vertonghen – 7
Hardly troubled defensively and picked simple passes to get attacks started.
Fazio – 7
As above. He wasn’t really troubled whether Brighton’s players tried to get at him on the deck or in the air.
Davies – 6
He’ll be frustrated he didn’t have more of an impact on the game as he found advanced positions frequently.
Lennon – 7
His pace was too much for the Brighton full-back but he’ll be disappointed he didn’t do more in terms of end product.
Stambouli – 6
Played it safe with his passing and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Dembele – 6
Could have got forward more and utilised his power but he was safe wherever he was on the pitch.
Townsend – 7
Plenty of pace but struggled once Brighton worked out how to contain him.
Kane – 8
Keeps his good run of form going and surely did enough to ensure he gets a game in the Premier League this weekend.
Soldado – 7
Was perhaps unfortunate not to get a goal, but he was superb in Tottenham’s attacking build up play.
Lamela – 7
Replaced Lennon and had a big impact on the game, turning quiet situations into attacking drives and putting Brighton players onto the back foot.
Chadli – N/A
Paulinho – N/A
