Second-half strikes from Erik Lamela and Harry Kane secured Tottenham Hotspur a 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion in Wednesday night’s fourth round Capital One Cup tie.
Kane’s goal was his eighth in seven cup games this season, with the 21-year-old delighted to get on the score sheet again after last week’s Europa League hat-trick against Asteras Tripolis.
‘It was a tough game,’ he told Spurs TV. ‘They sat back and soaked up the pressure in the second-half, but we knew if we kept the ball and kept playing the way we did then the chances would come.
‘I’m always happy to be scoring. Obviously it’s a good return but I’m just looking to the next game and the next goals.’
Despite his recent fine form, however, Kane is still to make an impact in the Premier League, having made just five brief appearances for a total of 68 minutes, even with fellow front men Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado struggling.
Fans are now eager for the England Under-21 international to be given a chance to showcase his top-flight credentials, and many of them took to Twitter at the final whistle to further argue his case to start in Sunday's trip to Aston Villa.
