Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have funds in place to go after a reported winter transfer target.
The Daily Mail claims that Tottenham Hotspur officials have confirmed funding is in place for Mauricio Pochettino to try and sign Jay Rodriguez from Southampton.
Recent reports have created fresh links suggesting Tottenham are considering a winter move for the forward after failing to sort out a £15 million deal over the summer.
Most importantly, as far as Spurs fans are concerned, the paper’s report doesn’t suggest that the in form Harry Kane will be heading in the other direction.
“Those in the corridors of power at White Hart Lane - [they] are prepared to fund his move for Rodriguez at the turn of the year,” reports the Mail.
“The Spurs boss feels Rodriguez’s pace and movement can help transform his forward line for the final months of the season.”
Reports earlier this week suggested that Southampton were interested in a £10 million move for Kane before Mauricio Pochettino nipped those rumours in the bud, confirming he wanted Kane at Spurs for several years.
Tottenham could use another striker up front, with a trio of Kane, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado their current options up front, which leaves the squad stretched thin if any of them become unavailable for a long time.
Therefore, it’s realistic and likely that Tottenham could move for another forward in the middle of the season and Pochettino appears keen to utilise links with his old club.
It’s impossible to predict the effect Rodriguez would have on the Tottenham attack until he’s signed, sealed and delivered at White Hart Lane but Saints chairman Ralph Krueger doesn’t let his side get pushed around and he could make things difficult for Spurs after the Morgan Schneiderlin incident over the summer.
