The Newcastle United strikers were in training ahead of their Premier League clash against the Reds.

Three consecutive wins in all competitions have seriously turned Newcastle's season around. The Premier League table now makes for much better reading for Magpies fans, while the fact that they are in the last eight of the Capital One Cup is not to be sniffed at either.

And, after beating defending champions Manchester City, boss Alan Pardew is full of confidence.

“We don’t ever come to games not to win. We had a game plan but players need to execute it," Pardew told reporters after the game.

“I could not have asked for more. They were outstanding in their discipline and the way they carried a threat all night. Especially in the wide areas. It’s something that’s an asset for us. I thought Gabriel Obertan was terrific for us.”

But the Magpies will know all too well that three wins don't make a season. This upturn in form will count for nothing if it is not sustained and Pardew will be in the firing line once again should results turn sour.

That's why Newcastle's Premier League clash with Liverpool this Saturday lunchtime could not be more important. And there were two boosts for the side in training ahead of that game.

Firstly, Papiss Cisse trained with the side, with boss Pardew telling reporters that he is 'touch and go' when it comes to being fit for the Liverpool fixture. Secondly, Argentine forward Facundo Ferreyra looked in good spirits during training, being snapped taking a dangerous shot at goal.

Here, then, are the best pictures from practice!
