Tottenham latest, Kane on goals, Vertonghen on side's mentality

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Thursday evening.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane is hoping that his eight goals so far this season in the Europa League and League Cup get the chance to translate into goals in the Premier League.

Kane has been the in-form striker but the 21-year-old is having to be patient for his opportunity in the Premier League, with Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor providing competition for a place in the side.

He told Spurs TV after last night's 2-0 win over Brighton in the League Cup: "It (the number of goals) is a good return but I'm concentrating on the next game now and hopefully I will get some minutes and get some goals.

"These are the sort of games I want to be scoring in and getting myself out there, I always enjoy playing - I just want to keep playing and keep scoring."

Defender Jan Vertonghen is confident the side can go all the way and lift the League Cup this season after they were drawn against Newcastle United at home in the quarter finals.

Vertonghen believes that silverware would be a good way to overcome a mental obstacle for the side after their mentality has come in for some criticism lately.

He's quoted in the London Evening Standard, saying: “We have a lot of good players but sometimes you just need it to click and I hope we find it now — in the Capital One Cup. We are in the quarter-finals and hopefully we can force something."

Andros Townsend has told the Tottenham website that he doesn't believe he is playing well enough to get into the Premier League starting XI after he played for Spurs in last night's win over Brighton.

He said: “I know maybe at the moment I’m not playing well enough to break into the Premier League side but I’m feeling better and better and felt sharp tonight, got some good crosses in and hopefully it will all fall into place.”
