Arsenal defender Calum Chambers admits he has surprised even himself at how fast he’s adapted to life in north London and European football.
Chambers, 19, has become an instant hit at the Emirates since arriving from Southampton this summer for a potential £16 million fee, filling in at both centre-back and his usual right-back spot over 14 total appearances.
With his impressive form even earning him his first two senior England caps, the versatile teenager claims his new teammates have helped make his move far easier than anticipated.
‘How quickly it has all happened for me, I have been a bit surprised [by that],’ he told arsenal.com.
‘At the start it was a whirlwind, it was all new. I had been at Southampton for 12 years, but I am starting to settle down now. All the lads and the staff at the club have been great towards me and I am really starting to find my feet.’
Champions League football was one of the things Chambers was most looking forward to experiencing upon completing his move from the Saints, and his debut in August proved a real occasion to savour.
‘It gave me goosebumps - I was singing the tune in my head!’ he said. ‘It was a really proud moment for me and my family and one I will never forget.
‘Making my debut in the Champions League was a big challenge for me. Mentally and physically the whole occasion was just special.’
