After a start to the season above the expectations of many, West Brom saw their hopes of a cup run come to an end at the Goldsands Stadium.
The Baggies were defeated 2-1 at Bournemouth, having left in-form striker Saido Berahino on the bench.
It was a real chance for those who have been overshadowed by the England under-21 international to step up, including £16 million pair Victor Anichebe and Ideye Brown.
Brown, signed for £10 million in the summer, and has just returned from injury, lasting 55 minutes against the Cherries, struggling to impress but still clearly working his way back to fitness, and for form.
Victor Anichebe has also handed a start, coming off a performance at the weekend in which he came off the bench against Crystal Palace to score his first goal of the season in a 2-2 draw.
Did he follow up his display at the Hawthorns with a positive display in the Capital One Cup?
It's hard to say that he seized his opportunity. Anichebe lasted 90 minutes, supported late on by Berahino and Georgios Samaras on as substitutes as they pushed for an equaliser.
Fans on Twitter were less than impressed with his overall contribution, venting their frustration at his display.
Anichebe is what he is & it's not a starter. Ever.— Gavin Poulton (@gavin_poulton) October 28, 2014

Anichebe been ineffective so far, as per— Pricey (@AlfiePrice_) October 28, 2014
Mulumbu surprisingly blowing in the 1st half, looked knackered, overrun in midfield, Brown/Anichebe didn't work. Well played Bournemouth— Steve Freeth (@stevefreeth) October 28, 2014
After tonight, I'd drop Anichebe and Mulumbu from our squad for a month.— Jack (@TheeJackBradley) October 28, 2014
