PHOTOS: Newcastle United star back in action after 26 month injury hell

Ryan Taylor played a pivotal role in Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Manchester City.

It was certainly a great night to be a Newcastle United fan. In recent times that has become a rarity so the Toon Army will doubtless be partying their way all the way back from Manchester this evening. They defeated the Premier LEague champions Manchester City 2-0 at The Etihad to qualify for the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup.

Goals from Rolando Aarons and Moussa Sissoko were enough to do the trick against City, who were left stunned by Alan Pardew's men.

For Newcastle fans there has not been much to smile about recently, but this was certainly one of the better days in their recent history.

But if they needed another reason to smile they got it via Ryan Taylor. He has not played a game for the club since facing Atromitos in August 2012. A series of knee injuries have plagued him ever since, so to see him back in action was truly fantastic for Toon fans to behold.

He started the game and managed 90 minutes on his return to first-team action.

He even managed to grab an assist.

Here are some images from the emotional return to action for this Newcastle hero...
