On this day: Chelsea top Arsenal as Chicharito is at the double

On the 29th October 2013 what were the stories that dominated the football landscape? Including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Let's cast our eyes back to this exact day, the 29th October 2014, but a year earlier.

What were the main tales from that day? What big events were happening in Premier League football?

Here are some of the big scoops from the 29th October 2013…

Arsenal woe

A year ago today and Chelsea defeated Arsenal 2-0 in the League Cup. Arsenal and Chelsea, who usually play back-up stars in the competition, put strong teams out at The Emirates.

But it was not enough for Arsenal. Chelsea defeated them 2-0 thanks to goals from Cesar Azpilicueta and Juan Mata, the latter of which was struggling for first team football at the time.

After his excellent performance he said of his continual first-team problems:

"The manager is the one who makes the decision but I will always try my best for this club. That's what I'll always try and do. We've played City and Arsenal this week, two of the best teams in Europe, and we've beaten them. That shows we're ready to fight for titles."

Mata did not help Chelsea toward any titles though. He of course joined Manchester United in January for £37.1 million.

Chicharito wonder

Meanwhile United were defeating Norwich City 4-0. David Moyes was going through a mire at the time but this game was one of his pluses as United were dominant.

The goals came from Javier Hernandez, scoring twice, as well as Phil Jones and Fabio Da Silva.

It was the performance of Chicharito that really caught the eye, as he tore Norwich apart with his incisive strike display.

He is of course now on loan at Real Madrid, where he is in great form.
