'Not the answer' - Michael Owen reflects on Liverpool signing Mario Balotelli

Mario Balotelli scored a crucial goal as Liverpool beat Swansea City.

Former Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli scored a crucial equaliser to rescue the club's League Cup run.

The Reds had appeared to be heading for defeat at home to Swansea City, before Balotelli's 86th minute goal set Brendan Rodgers' side on course for victory, with Dejan Lovren netting an injury time winner.

It was Balotelli's second goal for the club in cup competitions, but a much-needed one as his run of none in the Premier League since his £16 million from from AC Milan has seen him come in for intense criticism.

The striker may consider a little of the weight lifted from his shoulders, though, but a message posted on Twitter by former club hero Michael Owen illustrated sharply that his problems are not suddenly solved.

Balotelli needs to get a run of form going to win over his doubters, but even doing so over a few weeks will not be enough, he needs to put an entire season of good performances together.

He was a player who arrived with real question marks over his aptitude to succeed leading the line for a club as demanding as Liverpool, and the extra pressure place on him due to Daniel Sturridge's injury issues have not helped his cause.

Owen may feel he is 'not the answer', but perhaps last night was the beginning of him showing that at least he can be part of the solution for the Reds.
