Could Newcastle United be on the cusp of a historic cup run?
The Tyneside outfit booked their passage into the quarter-final of the Capital One Cup after overseeing cash-rich Manchester City by a 2-0 score in the Etihad Stadium earlier this evening, Wednesday.
The scoreline was not the only reason the traveling Magpies fans provided raucous noise in the away section, as the match also saw the return of Ryan Taylor, who had been plagued by ligament injuries for over two years.
Taylor needed just six minutes to make an impact on the scoreline as he supplied the key pass that ensured Rolando Aarons could put Newcastle ahead with a shot scross goal into the far corner.
Moussa Sissoko doubled the club's lead and effectively guaranteed the win in the 75th minute, with the team huddling at the final-whistle.
Newcastle United's social media team were swift to acknowledge their fanbase, who played a key part in boosting morale on the pitch.
"The Newcastle United fans haven't stopped all game and they're cheering Newcastle's every touch," said a Tweet on the club's official Twitter channel.
"What a magnificent performance by the Magpies."
