Anderlecht defender Anthony Vanden Borre insists young teammate Youri Tielemans will be even better than his former club and Belgium colleague Vincent Kompany once he fulfils his undoubted potential.
The promising midfielder broke into the first-team last season at the age of just 16, making 35 total appearances to attract the interest of a host of major European clubs, including Manchester United and Chelsea.
Vanden Borre is in a good position to judge their respective talents, having come up through the youth ranks with Kompany at Anderlecht, when the now-Manchester City captain featured in the midfield, but he believes Tielemans could go even further in the game.
‘Youri I regard as my younger brother,’ he told Het Niewusblad. ‘We talk every day, he always comes to me. It's good that I can tell him what he should not do. He's even stronger than Vincent Kompany at that age.
‘You have not seen anything from him, but in a year or two, maybe three, you're going to understand that he really has something more than Vincent and me.’
Being compared to one of the Premier League’s leading stars is high praise indeed but, given the plaudits Tielemans has received over the past 12 months, he might just be on course to reaching such heights.
