A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Wednesday morning.
All the headlines are about Mario Balotelli with Liverpool this morning, but this time for more of the right reasons as the Reds staged a late fightback to overcome Swansea City 2-1 at Anfield to book their place in the quarter-finals of the League Cup.
Balotelli latched on to a cross from Fabio Borini five minutes before the end of normal time to silence some of the critics for his lack of goals, before Dejan Lovren's stoppage time header won the game for the Reds.
After the game, assistant manager Colin Pascoe suggested Balotelli was rewarded for hard work. He was quoted in the Liverpool Echo: “He’s working hard in training and got his just rewards coming on and getting the goal.”
“He worked so hard, I’m glad he got the goal.”
The 24-year-old has suffered an injury scare in the warm up, as it was revealed he twisted his knee.
Defender Kolo Toure has also spoken of his delight for Balotelli, suggesting the forward could go on and show he is one of the best strikers in the world after scoring only his second goal for the club.
He told the Liverpool Echo after the game: “Mario needs to feed himself by scoring goals. Now he’s got that one he will do that now, definitely.
“Getting that goal will be fantastic for his confidence. He is a great player, he has just been lacking goals.
“Mario is my mate and I’ve tried to help him like Stevie (Gerrard), the manager and everyone else in the dressing room."
