Chelsea fought well to secure a 2-1 win against Shrewsbury Town in the League Cup last night.

Chelsea went into a difficult League Cup tie against Shrewsbury Town last night staring at the possibility of banana skin style embarrassment.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men got the job done and focus now switches back to maintaining their lead at the top of the Premier League against QPR this weekend.

It was a match which saw Mourinho hand chances to the likes of Andreas Christensen, Nathan Ake and Kurt Zouma, with the trio of youngsters not letting their manager down.

Didier Drogba produced the only goal of the game from a Chelsea player with the winner coming from an own goal after a John Obi Mikel mistake led to an equaliser for the home side.

Mourinho was left frustrated that the fringe players he used from his first team squad didn’t make his team selection problems ahead of this weekend a little more difficult but the most important thing was always going to be the win.

The Blues now face a tense wait ahead of the quarter-finals as Mourinho tries to win the first competition he won during his first spell at the club.
