Alan Pardew, Newcastle United and the entire playing staff have won the plaudits of renowned social media pundits - Robbie Savage, Gary Lineker and Michael Owen - for the manner in which they disposed of Manchester City in the Capital One Cup at the Etihad Stadium earlier this evening, Wednesday.
Goals from Rolando Aarons, Moussa Sissoko and the competitive return of Ryan Taylor helped buoy the traveling Magpies support, as Newcastle returned an unlikely result against high-flying Manchester City.
Former Blackburn Rovers and Derby County midfielder Savage, now 40, said: "Newcastle were brilliant tonight!"
Match of the Day anchor and legendary Tottenham Hotspur striker Gary Lineker commented: "[That is the] best I've seen Newcastle play in yonks - amazing what a couple of wins can do.
"Newcastle's Sissoko is the best Sissoko in the business. He is a hell of a player."
He added, in a testament of how Pardew has the backing of his players: "I got hammered on here a few weeks ago when I suggested that Alan Pardew still had the dressing room. I'm listening?"
Owen, who had a stint at Newcastle himself, said: "Sissoko is a proper player. And I'm delighted for Ryan Taylor. I can't begin to explain the hard work and pain he has gone through."
