Arsenal deal for Pedro 'not going to happen', says Balague

Pedro Rodriguez Spain

Guillem Balague has made it clear that Pedro will not be joining Arsenal in January.

Reports this week have emerged suggesting that Arsenal could make a move for Barcelona forward Pedro Rodriguez in the January transfer window.

It was reported in the Mirror that Pedro had handed in a transfer request at the Nou Camp and Arsenal were one of many teams enquiring as to his availability in the winter.

The winger considered his position at Barca in the summer but after Alexis Sanchez was sold to Arsenal he believed his first-team chances had improved.

However, with the arrival of Luis Suarez and the emergence of Munir El Haddadi he finds himself down the pecking order, with Lionel Messi and Neymar also in front of him.

But despite the rumours how likely is a move?

Not very according to Spanish football expert Guillem Balague.

He was quizzed on the subject of Pedro this week by the Bleacher Report, who he told in no uncertain terms that Barcelona would not be willing to sell anybody at this moment in time - because of fears over their looming transfer embargo:

"They are not going to get rid of anybody. This is the message that comes to me from the board the ones who make decisions at Barcelona - so it is not going to happen.

"But certainly his situation is one to monitor because now he feels sorry for not having left in the summer. Now he feels sorry for not accepting the offers he received from the Premier League and now he realises that, despite the nice words from (Barcelona coach) Luis Enrique he is not going to be sometimes even the fourth [choice] forward.

"But remember that if Barcelona cannot sign for another 18 months [because of transfer embargo] or so they are not going to get rid of anybody."

Pedro may indeed want the move, but it would appear Barca will not be selling him any time soon.
