Manchester United winger loanee has had a solid start on his return to Sporting Lisbon, and was one of the top nominees for an early season award in Portugal.
Newspaper O Jogo report Nani finished in the top three, for the best player award for the two month period of August and September.
The award is voted for by the players, and league pundits, and the results announced only yesterday.
He was beaten to the honour by Benfica forward Anderson Talisca (top) a summer signing from Brazilian side Bahia.
Only 20-years-old, his form this season has been scintillating, scoring seven goals in eight games, attracting transfer interest from both Liverpool and Arsenal, reported by The Mirror earlier this month.
Talisca amassed 32 per cent of the vote, with Porto's Yacine Brahimi second with 17 per cent. United loanee Nani came in third with 12 per cent, a way behind the Brazilian, but a notable achievement to be voted into the top three by his peers.
The 27-year-old may be surplus to requirements at United, but he is at least playing regularly and making an impact. He has four goals to his name to date, including two in the Champions League.
At the very least from a United perspective, he is adding to his value for his eventual sale next summer.
