Under-pressure Aston Villa continue to struggle for goals, and are likely to consider adding to their squad in January.
The latest name linked, reported by The Mirror, is Wolves attacker Bakary Sako.
The Malian international is into his third season at Molineux, but Wolves have so far been unable to tie the 26-year-old down to a new contract, with his current deal set to expire next summer.
The paper report: "Lambert is keen on a move for Wolves star Sako, who is Wanderers top scorer following their return to the Championship."
In addition to Sako's eight goals in all competitions for Wolves, he has one assist to his name, and has been a key player since his £4 million switch from Saint Etienne in 2012.
His impressive form and contract situation is a perfect storm for Premier League sides looking for a bargain in January, but Wolves can play hard ball and accept a potential loss to keep him until the end of the season, even if he signs a Bosman to move on.
Wolves sit joint top at the Championship with 26 points, and while there is a long way to go, they may be able to persuade him to stick around in case they achieve a second successive promotion, while Villa's future in the top flight is not assured either.
This is a possibility not lost on Wolves fans, who reacted with disappointment and bemusement to the Villa links:
