In the latest Arsenal transfer news, could Wenger look to recruit one of the many top-level Ligue 1 players whose contracts are fast expiring?
Could a Bosman deal involving some of Ligue 1's top talents excite Arsene Wenger?
There are numerous players in the division who are no doubt attracting attention from other clubs in other countries, due to their contractual status.
Here are three Arsenal boss Wenger could be looking at…
1): Rio Mavuba - Lille
A defensive-minded midfielder, Mavuba, 30, is an accomplished athlete in France having competed for Bordeaux and Lille.
He won the Coupe de la Ligue with the former and the Ligue 1 title with the latter, whilst also picking up 13 caps for the France national football team.
When he was at Bordeaux he even issued a come and get me plea to Wenger: "I would not mind playing for Arsenal," he is quoted by the FIFA magazine to have said.
2): Yoann Gourcuff - Olympique Lyonnais (right)
Still in his peak years as an athlete and footballer, the name of Yoann Gourcuff has seemingly been around for a long time.
A precocious-talent earmarked for a big future at Rennes, Gourcuff made a high-profile move to AC Milan yet returned to France after just two seasons.
Gourcuff's contract at Lyon is fast expiring, yet he still remains in and around the first-team as, in three Ligue 1 starts (and four as a substitute), Gourcuff has returned an 89% passing accuracy, 25 key passes, one assist and three goals from seven shots.
3): Jeremy Toulalan - AS Monaco
A versatile veteran of French football, Toulalan, 31, can play either in the heart of defence of the base of midfield.
Toulalan is a two time Ligue 1 title winner with Lyon, has accumulated 36 international caps with France and still has much to offer another club if AS Monaco cannot sort his contract out.
Toulalan has recorded 40 tackles, 18 interceptions, 12 clearances and has an 80% passing accuracy all just from eight outings in the French division in the current season to date.
Others - Andre Pierre Gignac, Andre Ayew, Maxwell, Adrien Rabiot, Cvitanich, Dimitar Berbatov, Clement Chantome.
