Kane has worked hard this season to try and get a regular first team chance under Mauricio Pochettino but it seems he’s not done enough to promote himself as a regular option up front in the Premier League.
Kane has played well in the Europa League when he’s had the opportunity to lead the attack and we’ve considered three questions and taken a look at the initial reaction from Tottenham fans to the rumour.
Why would Pochettino sell him?
It’s difficult to say because there doesn’t seem to be much logic behind the sale from Tottenham’s point of view. Kane is a young forward who is developing all the time and while he’s not the quickest or most skilful striker, he works hard and is versatile up front.
Who Rodriguez be the replacement?
Tottenham Hotspur were strongly linked with a move for Jay Rodriguez in the summer, but a deal never happened. The England international has been out of action with injury so it’s a big risk for Pochettino to get rid of a player with half a season of match fitness under his belt for a player fresh off of a long term injury.
What’s the main risk involved?
The main risk is that Spurs will find themselves with two strikers in Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, with no guarantee of getting a replacement if Rodriguez isn’t included in a swap deal. It’s notoriously difficult for sides to do big pieces of business in the middle of a season, which could make finding an alternative difficult for Pochettino.
Here’s what Tottenham Hotspur fans have had to say on the rumour.
Kane linked to Southampton. At least he’ll play more PL mins there. Can’t believe the great Harry Kane is being benched by Soldado and Ade.— THFC Banter (@THFCbanter) October 28, 2014
Lol apparently southampton want kane for £10m. Imagine selling him for that cheap— JD (@FUTJD) October 28, 2014
If Tottenham sell Harry Kane to Southampton - regardless of whether Rodriguez goes the other way - I might just stop going.— Tom Edwards (@MrTomEdwards) October 28, 2014
