Roma boss defends Cole

Ashley Cole

Roma coach Rudi Garcia has rejected suggestions that summer signing Ashley Cole is underachieving, despite his less than perfect performances.

Ashley Cole has the support of Roma coach Rudi Garcia in spite of his recent struggles at the Eternal City side.

There have already been suggestions that Cole could be off to the MLS in January, but the former England international doesn't appear to be ready to throw in the towel just yet.

Cole came in for some tough criticism after Roma were mauled 7-1 by Bayern Munich with the left-back being taken off at half-time.

Although Jose Holebas played in Roma's 0-0 draw with Sampdoria last weekend, Garcia believes Cole deserves some time.

"The defeat against Bayern wasn’t just down to one player,” Garcia insisted in a press conference.

"Everyone made mistakes and that includes me. Ashley has also played well in big games, such as against Manchester City.

"He’s feeling good, he’s always positive and he’s a great player, he’ll be involved in the upcoming games.”

Nonetheless, Cole is not expected to start against minnows Cesena tomorrow evening.
