When Nani left Manchester United for Sporting Lisbon on loan in the summer, few truly expected he would return on a permanent basis.
The Portuguese international had never managed to live up to his vast potential at Old Trafford and had become a frustrating player for fans and managers alike.
But Nani has looked a whole different player after a slightly shaky start to life back in his homeland, and there are suggestions that he could be brought back to base after all.
There are reports in Europe that Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been watching Nani's efforts over the last few weeks and is beginning to think about the idea of giving him another crack at the Premier League.
Van Gaal is looking for a player to do exactly what Nani is doing at Sporting and it may be that the answer lies within his existing squad.
However, most people believe it would be tough to end the loan spell in January and Nani wouldn't be headed back to Manchester before next June in any case.
