'No place in the club' - Spanish paper criticises United target Pique

Spanish newspaper Sport has laid into reported Manchester United target Gerard Pique suggesting he has no place in Barcelona.

The headline on the website of Spanish newspaper Sport will delight Manchester United if they’re keen to bring Gerard Pique back to the club.

Sport leads into a story discussing whether Pique is still a prominent player at the club by suggesting he firmly isn’t

‘Pique has no place in the club playing at this level,’ reads Sport’s headline.

Sport TV, the TV section launched by the newspaper, has been discussing the merits of certain Barcelona players after the 3-1 defeat in the Clasico to Real Madrid last weekend.

Pique is one of the players who came under scrutiny with further suggestions from Sport that he could be allowed to leave this winter if the right offer comes in for him.

The report and the headline suggest that attitudes and perceptions of how important Pique is to Barcelona continue to decline, when he was once a first choice player in a side that was so successful at the back end of the 2000s.

It’s been widely reported in the British press that United are on the hunt for a centre-back with Pique one of several names linked with an Old Trafford move in the transfer rumour mill.

However, what could work against United is similar to what might stop Pedro from joining Arsenal; Luis Enrique can’t sign a replacement with the club banned from bringing in any players for the next two windows.

If there is a genuine belief somewhere within Barca which mirrors the thoughts of Sport TV’s panel then United could do a lot worse than bringing in the experience of their former player.

Then all they have to do is convince Shakira it’s the right move.
