Liverpool left it late to oversee the Swansea City threat at Anfield in the Capital One Cup earlier this evening, Tuesday, but prevailed due to a 2-1 score.
Marvin Emnes gave the Swans hope of a victory on the road after he scored in the 65th minute, however, goals from Mario Balotelli and Dejan Lovren in the 86th and 90th minute respectively ensured the Welsh club's elimination.
It was a much-needed victory for Brendan Rodgers, after a disappointing draw with Hull City and a 3-0 loss to Real Madrid.
But the manner in which Liverpool triumphed will give the club a huge boost going in to the weekend match, against Newcastle United.
That is the opinion of Jamie Carragher, who said after the match: "[I did] not [attend] the game but late goals give everyone at a club a massive lift."
He continued: "Well done to Mario [Balotelli]! Hopefully Liverpool go bouncing into the Newcastle game."
