Former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen has revealed that Thierry Henry initially struggled to accept his role at Barcelona.
Former France international Henry joined Barca from Arsenal in the summer of 2007. The 37-year-old striker, now at New York Red Bulls, had to play out wide to accommodate Lionel Messi (and Samuel Eto’o in parts) during his time at Camp Nou.
Gudjohnsen, who himself was on the books of Barcelona from 2006 until 2009, has now revealed that former Juventus striker Henry was initially unconvinced about his playing position.
‘It took him a while to accept the role that he was given in the team’, Gudjohnsen told Sky Sports’ Revista de La Liga.
‘But once he did, Henry was not just out wide but he became a hit at Barcelona. He embraced the role that he played... In the end, I think Henry was happy with the role that he was given there'.
Henry eventually adapted himself and went on to achieve huge success at Barcelona. In his three years with the Spanish giants, he won La Liga twice and the Champions League once among other major honours.
