Newcastle's Sammy Ameobi has praised the impact that Ayoze Perez has made since joining this summer.

Newcastle United's Sammy Ameobi has moved to praise the impact that Ayoze Perez has made since joining the club this summer.

Perez completed a £1.5 million transfer from Tenerife to St. James' Park in the previous transfer window and he has clearly done enough to impress Ameobi during his brief spell at the club.

The 21-year-old was expected to play a back-up role upon arriving at the club, but he has actually been given fairly regular first-team action and scored his first goal for the club at the weekend.

It was an important strike, too, as it provided Newcastle with a come-from-behind victory over Tottenham Hotspur and Ameobi believes that the goal was reward for the impressive form that Perez has shown since joining.

"Ayoze has been brilliant since he joined," Ameobi said to the Sunderland Echo.

“It was tough for him in the first half up front on his own against two big centre-halves, but he pushed through and got his goal and we are really happy for him.”

Perez's goal should have been enough to keep him in the starting line-up as the side have struggled to hit the back of the net so far this campaign.

Although Papiss Cisse's form since returning from injury has been encouraging, the rest of their attacking players have generally struggled and Alan Pardew is likely to keep the youngster in his team after he opened his account.

Emmanuel Riviere was expected to lead the line for the side this season, but Perez has settled in far better and will be hoping to push on after this goal.

Ameobi, too, has impressed since the start of the campaign. The winger scored Newcastle's first yesterday and has proven to be a useful impact substitute for the Magpies so far.

He will be hoping to continue this good form as the campaign progresses now, as the side look to climb away from the relegation zone after picking up back-to-back victories.
