PICTURE: Berahino compared to Rooney - do the stats do Wayne justice?

West Bromwich Albion's star prospect has been likened to Manchester United captain, but is one player actually out-performing the other?

Berahino vs Rooney

Sky Sports recently ran a headline indicating West Bromwich Albion boss Alan Irvine had likened Baggies wonderkid Saido Berahino to Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney.

How accurate is that sentiment?

As is demonstrated by the HITC:Sport graphic above, Rooney is on the ball for Manchester United far more frequently than Berahino, as the Red Devil receives a touch on the football every 1.35 minutes compared to Berahino who only touches the ball every 2.19 minutes on average.

While Berahino enjoys a superior precision in the pass, it is actually Rooney who provides more goal-scoring opportunities and assists than the Borundi-born youngster.

Berahino, though, really comes into his own when it comes to goal-scoring ability.

The 21-year-old not only out-guns Rooney when it comes to precision in the shot, but he - on average - scores a goal with every four shots (an extraordinary, elite-level ratio), while Rooney only scores with 16% of his attempts.

Berahino is also responsible for affecting the scoreline every 115 minutes, compared to Rooney's goal every 169 minute stat.

This season, it is clear Rooney is the more creative player out of the two, however, the statistics reveal Berahino to be the more effective striker of the football.
