Manchester United got out of jail on Sunday thanks to Robin van Persie’s late equaliser against Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho’s London club headed into the Premier League clash at Old Trafford as the favourites and took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half.
Club legend Didier Drogba headed home on 53 minutes for what was his first goal in the English top flight since March 2012.
Chelsea became more defensive as the second half progressed, but United did not give up and continued to pile up the pressure.
Then deep into injury time United finally got a deserved equaliser.
Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic was sent off for a second bookable offence. Angel di Maria floated in the resulting free kick which Marouane Fellaini turned towards goal. Although the Belgian’s effort was brilliantly saved by Thibaut Courtois, Robin van Persie slammed home the rebound from close range.
The Old Trafford faithful erupted in joy as the Dutchman celebrated in style. After the match, Van Persie thanked the United fans, as did a number of his teammates, including Daley Blind.
