Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: What pleased me most v Chelsea in Premier League

Louis Van Gaal

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal comments after his side’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has been reflecting on his side’s draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho’s team took the lead at Old Trafford through club legend Didier Drogba, but Robin van Persie struck home in injury time to ensure that the Premier League contest ends in a 1-1 draw.

United were also helped by the late sending-off of Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic for a second bookable offence.

Despite the draw and failing to close the gap on the league leaders, Red Devils boss Van Gaal was pleased with his side’s performance.

But what pleased the Dutchman most?

‘I think we are showing again that we are believing till the end in (scoring) a goal’, Van Gaal told Sky Sports when asked the question. ‘We were 2-1 behind (against West Bromwich Albion) and today we were 1-0 behind. It is fantastic that players are running till the 90th minute to equalise or to win'.

United did show fighting spirit against Chelsea, just as they had done against West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns on Monday when they were 2-1 down at one stage.

However, the question that should be asked is why United are going behind. Van Gaal’s defence still looks shaky, and if they continue to trail, then there will be a match in which they won’t be able to stage a comeback.
