Tottenham are lacking wins and points in the Premier League, but are not short of options in midfield.
As they suffered a disappointing home defeat to Newcastle United on Sunday, summer signing Benjamin Stambouli was once again left out.
After initially impressing in a 20 minute cameo appearance after arriving on deadline day, in early September against Sunderland, he has not featured at all in the Premier League.
He made more tackles in that brief spell than any player on the pitch, but so far coach Mauricio Pochettino has not seen enough to give him further opportunities.
Stambouli has not played at all for Spurs since October 2, a Europa League draw with Besiktas, overlooked for the tie with Asteras Tripoli in midweek too.
Spurs beat off competition from Fiorentina for his signature, but his plight has caught the attention of the Italian media. Website TMW address the 'curious case of Benjamin Stambouli', noting the 'mystery' that he has seemingly failed to impress head coach Pochettino so far.
It's entirely unclear what the Argentine sees as the issue, but there is a potential chance for Stambouli to get some gametime in the midweek match in the Capital One Cup with Brighton and Hove Albion.
If he continues to be left on the sidelines, it's entirely possible interest from abroad will resurface and enquiries will be made as to if he is available in January already, but given the £6 million investment in his services, the odds will be firmly on him sticking around and proving himself at White Hart Lane yet.
