Everton landed the permanent signatures of Gareth Barry and Romelu Lukaku this summer, but extending the contract of midfielder Ross Barkley was arguably as important. Yet recent speculation has suggested that there is a release clause in the 20-year-old's contract with Chelsea and Manchester City eyeing bids, but Martinez says that isn't the case.
"No, there are no buy-out clauses in any of the contracts," said Martinez. "The only one was with Marouane (Fellaini) and that wasn’t triggered, so it didn’t matter. All the speculation and talk is positive. Because you don’t get any of that when your players are not playing well or they haven’t got potential."
Sunday's 3-1 win over Burnley was another sign that the Toffees are heading in the right direction after a tough start to the season, and Martinez singled left back Leighton Baines out for praise.
"Leighton has been at this level for a while now," Martinez said. "It would be very harsh today to highlight one player because when you come to Turf Moor you have to have a team performance and I thought we had that. Even when the players came on, they picked up the tempo and helped straight away."
"But Leighton Baines in the last month – maybe even since the start of the season – has had the best performances of his career. It’s pleasing and exciting to see him playing at that level."
The key to Everton's win over the Clarets was the performance of goalscorers Samuel Eto'o and Romelu Lukaku. Eto'o bagged two and Lukaku one, leaving Belgian international Lukaku to praise Eto'o not only for his sublime second goal, but also for his teaching qualities.
"I wasn't surprised to see Samuel score one like [his second]. When he took the touch I was thinking 'goal'," Lukaku said. "He has scored so many throughout his career and it's a pleasure to be working with him. He wants to help me become one of the best."
"I feel very lucky to be able to work with someone I grew up watching. I have been blessed to work with some great strikers and now I am working with another one. Hopefully I can become one of the best."
