Colin Pascoe provides Liverpool injury update ahead of League Cup clash

Liverpool Assistant manager Colin Pascoe provided an injury update for the Reds ahead of tomorrow night's Capital One Cup tie against Swansea City at Anfield

Liverpool Assistant Manager Colin Pascoe said that Mamdaou Sakho is a couple of weeks away from fitness but said the Frenchman is progressing well after a thigh injury, whilst Daniel Sturridge continues his recovery from a calf problem.

There were more questions asked about Mario Balotelli at the press conference with Brendan Rodgers' assistant has been talking about the hard work that the Italian has been putting in on the training ground, stressing that he wants to work on aspects of his game at the end of each training session.

Speaking at the press conference ahead of tomorrow night's game, Pascoe said: "Mario is a great talent and always works hard on the training field. His hunger is there. He wants to win."

Pascoe also alluded to the 3-0 win away at Tottenham at the start of the season as an example of Balotelli working well, when Daniel Sturridge was alongside him. The Italian looked a stronger player when Rickie Lambert played alongside him in the closing stages of Saturday's 0-0 draw with Hull City.

In terms of team selection he wouldn't be drawn on individuals but said that it is a chance to give youngsters a chance, after both Jordan Rossiter and Jordan Williams impressed in the penalty shootout victory over Middlesbrough in the last round.

Another player who may get a run out for the Reds tomorrow is Lazar Markovic, who has struggled since signing for £20 million from Benfica, but Pascoe has described the Serbian as a 'quality player'.

He added: "He wants to do well and he's a winner."
