Aston Villa’s Philippe Senderos has hailed his growing rapport with centre-back partner Ron Vlaar, who he believes to be one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
Arriving in June on a free transfer, Senderos and Vlaar featured alongside one another for the first three league games of the season, before a calf strain sidelined the Dutchman for next six weeks.
He returned to the line-up for the recent 3-0 defeat at Everton, but Senderos himself missed the match with a niggling thigh injury, and remains a slight doubt for Monday night’s trip to Queens Park Rangers.
Nevertheless, having conceded just one goal in their time on the pitch together, the former Arsenal man is eager to renew his partnership with the club’s star skipper as soon as possible.
‘We hit it off immediately – outside football we have the same mentality and on the pitch we are very similar too,’ he told the Daily Mail.
‘These things sometimes just click. We don’t need to talk too much to know 100 per cent what the other is thinking.
‘Ron is right up there with the best defenders – a top, top player. He was one of the best at the World Cup and is one of the best in the Premier League.
‘We’ve had a tough run of games, but we have to remember what we did well at the start of the season and maintain the belief.’
