Lille defender out to impress against Everton - Could Manchester United take an interest?

Lille

After his Man of the Match performance against Everton in France, Simon Kjaer is out to impress when he travels to Goodison Park in November.

Thursday night’s goalless draw at home to Everton was a great result for French side Lille OSC, but even more so for Danish defender Simon Kjaer.

The 25-year-old was named Man of the Match, not just be the French media, but also by the on-looking English press.

Kjaer moved to Lille from German side Wolfsburg last summer and the defender has been nothing short of a revelation since his €2 million move to northern France.

Last season, Lille finished the season third in Ligue 1 and collected 21 clean sheers along the way. Kjaer was impressive alongside Montenegrin centre-back Marko Basa and Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama.

During the summer, Kjaer was linked with a move to Old Trafford, but with Lille not in the ideal place to sell one of their prize assets and Kjaer happy in Ligue 1, it was best for all parties if he stayed in France for another season.

When Lille were drawn in the same group as Everton, it was the perfect opportunity for the player and his representatives to give English clubs a glimpse into what he can offer. Against Everton at the Stade Pierre Mauroy, Kjaer was at his imperious best. The club from Liverpool couldn’t find a way past him and Kjaer was in the right position when called upon.

On the 6th of November, Lille travel to Goodison Park for the fourth group game. It would be unlikely that Lille would have enough upfront to punish the Toffees, but they have enough at the back, if Kjaer plays the same way again, to pick up another vital point.

This will be the biggest chance for the Danish defender to make a few on-looking admirers take notice and another wonderful performance could just be what the defender needs to seal a move to the Premier League next summer.

Playing some of the best football of his career, Kjaer is in the best place possible to make a move to one of England’s best clubs. With Manchester United struggling defensively, adding this Viking warrior to their back-line could be an ideal summer signing
