Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has been a free agent since the summer, and despite being an excellent option has found it hard to find a move to a top club.
The Spanish international announced his decision to leave Barcelona long before his contract expired, but he then suffered a horrific knee injury, ruling him out for several months.
A deal with AS Monaco collapsed because of his medical problems while he has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool - although, that deal was not as close as first believed.
Now however it has been confirmed that Valdes is set to start training with Manchester United.
Valdes watched United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford today, as he gets ready to get stuck into action with the United first-team next week in training.
The United boss Louis van Gaal knows Valdes from his time at Barcelona - and is more than happy to help him in his recovery from the serious knee problems.
In fact, Van Gaal gave Valdes his Barca debut, so the rapport between the pair is said to be very good.
For now there is no suggestion that Valdes is a permanent addition waiting to happen for United. In fact, with David De Gea performing the way he currently is, that would be an odd decision.
But he did choose United over another illustrious destination.
According to sources in Germany Valdes was apparently offered a similar opportunity at Bayern Munich recently. Valdes was the goalkeeper for many years under Bayern boss Pep Guardiola at Barcelona. He is also friendly with many of the Bayern players, including Xabi Alonso and fellow stopper Pepe Reina.
But Valdes, as he has insinuated in the past, is keen on a move to the Premier League, so took up the chance to train with United as it offers him the best opportunity to achieve his goal.
Liverpool remain an option, while United should not be ruled out - so watch this space, Victor Valdes could be coming to a club near you soon.
