United morning update: Early team news; interest in teenager stepped up

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford this afternoon in Louis van Gaal’s biggest challenge since the Dutchman took charge in the summer.

In early team news, the BBC reports that Angel Di Maria is expected to overcome a thigh injury in time to face Jose Mourinho’s side. Radamel Falcao is injured and may not feature from the start, but Michael Carrick could be back having featured for the club’s under-21s last week.

For Chelsea, Loic Remy is out injured, Cesar Azpilicueta is suspended but Diego Costa could return, which would be bad news for United given the Spaniard’s prolific form to date.

In other news, the Sunday Mirror reports that United could make an early move for Heerenveen midfielder Daley Sinkgraven.

The player had been linked with van Gaal’s side earlier this month, but the latest report claims United may move swiftly in an attempt to beat the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool to the teenager’s signature.
