The Frenchman believes Louis van Gaal’s side are heading into the huge encounter at the right time and took positives from their recent 2-2 draw with West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Silvestre said, “I think that this game is coming at the right time for Manchester United but it’s going to be a real test of character.
“The players are slowly starting to understand each other a little better. The reaction against West Brom on Monday was a good one although they probably should have got themselves back into the top four after that game.”
As it is United are currently eighth, four points behind fourth-placed West Ham United with a game in hand.
Today’s encounter will be a very interesting one as it gives Louis van Gaal the chance to show what he can do against arguably the best side in the top flight this season.
Chelsea have been outstanding since the start of the campaign, dropping just two points to date, but if United can defeat them it will send a message to all those believing this side cannot challenge for the title even with the recent influx of quality reinforcements.
