Southampton fans react on Twitter to Mane's performance v Stoke City

Sadio Mané

The striker opened his account for the Saints against the Potters.

Rejoice Southampton fans: you are second in the Premier League table!

Sadio Mane's solitary strike was enough to give the Saints three points against Stoke City yesterday, although the South-Coast side were unlucky not to score more, having also hit the woodwork several times.

And boss Ronald Koeman was understandably pleased with the 1-0 victory.

“Yes it is a fantastic win. You can’t always win like last week. We had to fight and we needed the spirit right up until the last second for the three points," Koeman told Southampton's official website

“We deserved to win because we created eight opportunities to score in the second half, we didn’t kill the game off, but okay, it was a great fighting win and that’s also important.

“They have showed a great attitude. You know in football you can’t win easy, maybe once or twice, but you have to fight, you have to play.

“I was very happy about the first half because I think we played the best football this season.”

Interestingly, Mane's winner came after Graziano Pelle had initially hit the post for Southampton - and fans were impressed with the finish and his overall performance. This was his first official goal for the Saints, as his previous Premier League strike was later judged to have been an own goal.

Here, then, are the best fan reactions on Twitter to the striker's performance. There are quite a few happy Southampton supporters on social media...
