The prospect of Leeds United signing Josip Ilicic appear to be over.
The chances of Leeds United managing to sign Josip Ilicic took a double blow over the weekend.
A central reason for the move being possible was the Slovenian connection, with the international well known to compatriot and then Leeds head coach Darko Milanic.
He was sacked at the weekend after six games without a win, and Ilicic's performance for Fiorentina has made a switch even more unlikely.
Ilicic came off the bench to score a crucial goal against AC Milan, illustrating his talent and importance to the Serie A side.
Fiorentina boss Vincenzo Montella responded light-heartedly to the speculation after the 1-1 draw, telling TMW:
"Now he has scored, we do not think to let him go. He can do many things and grow a lot in the coming months."
The chances of Montella signing for Leeds was always a long shot, but the chances appear even slimmer now.
