Prior to Sunday's match against Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United forward Ayoze Perez had played just 94 minutes of Premier League football spread over seven appearances. So it was something of a surprise when Alan Pardew picked the 21-year-old to start the match against Spurs.
But the Spaniard seized his chance, scoring what proved to be the winner in the 58th minute.
Emmanuel Adebayor put the home side ahead before Sammy Ameobi equalised, leaving Perez to earn the plaudits by heading home a fine Remy Cabella cross.
Prior to the match, Newcastle youngster Adam Campbell had sent a tweet to Perez, clearly happy that his teammate was getting his first league start.
"Buzzing for Ayoze Perez," he wrote, "do your thing brother!"
And the former Tenerife player duly obliged, doing 'his thing' in some style to ensure Newcastle earned their first away win of the season to climb up to 14th in the table.
