Newcastle United player ratings vs Tottenham - Taylor excels in defence

St James Park

We rate Newcastle United's players after their 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Tim Krul 7 - didn't have a great deal to do, and had a few communication issues with Fabrizio Colocicni, but was generally solid.

Daryl Janmaat 8 - kept Nacer Chadli quiet, and amassed six tackles, six clearances and four interceptions in what was arguably his best game for the Magpies so far.

Steven Taylor- a bit part player in recent times, Taylor was superb in the heart of the Newcastle defence, and the stats back that up - nine clearances and four interceptions left Tottenham frustrated.

Fabrizio Coloccini 7 - led the back line well and got the ball away from the Newcastle goal, but could have got himself in a mess with Krul in the first half.

Paul Dummett 7 - with Erik Lamela seemingly insistent on cutting inside on his left foot, Dummett wasn't really tested at left back, but was steady enough.

Vurnon Anita 5 - barely touched the ball in his 45 minute spell on the pitch and it was unsurprising when he was substituted at half time.

Jack Colback 8 - kept the ball superbly with 96% pass accuracy, whilst with six interceptions he also fared well defensively in an impress display.

Moussa Sissoko 9 - the driving force in Newcastle's midfield, Sissoko was superb in all aspects of the game, breaking up play and setting the Magpies away on the counter.

Yoann Gouffran 6 - no shots, no dribbles and no key passes, Gouffran was wasteful in possession and was lucky that Obertan worse when it came to making subs.

Gabriel Obertan 5 - whilst he was the game-winner against Leicester City last weekend, Obertan was totally ineffectual before being hauled off at the break.

Ayoze Perez 8 - capped off his first start with a well taken header to win the game, and worked hard throughout in the Newcastle attack.

Sammy Ameobi 8 - brought on at half time by Pardew, Ameobi provided drive, direction and pace down the left hand side, whilst also brought Newcastle level just six seconds after coming on.

Remy Cabella 7 - superb quality when he crossed for Perez's winner, but continues to blow hot and cold after making a poor decision at the byline whilst already 2-1 up.

Massadio Haidara 6 - came on with 12 minutes to play but didn't really impact himself on the game other than to kill the game off with a good run down the left late on.
