United morning news: Carrick returns; young duo score; boss on Valdes

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick returned for the club’s under-21s on Friday evening, playing 64 minutes of their game against West Ham United.

Goals from James Wilson and Will Keane sealed the victory, but it was the return to competitive action of the previously injured Carrick that will be the biggest boost for United and their fans.

The England midfielder was on the bench against West Bromwich Albion on Monday and could feature in the vital game against Chelsea on Sunday.

In other news, United boss Louis van Gaal has given a somewhat cryptic message when asked if Victor Valdes could sign a deal at Old Trafford.

The former Barcelona stopper is training with United as he looks to build up his match fitness, and in quotes published by the Express, van Gaal said, “Manchester United has always their eyes open.”
