Former Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes has been a free agent since the summer, and despite being an excellent option has found it hard to find a move to a top club.
The Spanish international announced his decision to leave Barcelona long before his contract expired, but he then suffered a horrific knee injury, ruling him out for several months.
A deal with AS Monaco collapsed because of his medical problems while he has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool - although, that deal was not as close as first believed.
Now however it has been confirmed that Valdes is set to start training with Manchester United.
The United boss Louis van Gaal knows Valdes from his time at Barcelona - and is more than happy to help him in his recovery from the serious knee problems.
A statement on the official Manchester United website says:
"Valdes, a free agent, will have his recovery supervised by the United medical staff before training with the first team, as he bids to regain full fitness."
It has already been confirmed by many a source that Manchester United will not be signing Valdes on a permanent deal. This is simply Van Gaal helping out a former prodigy of his in a time of need.
Of course, it would not be a surprise if Manchester United did end up stealing him away after all.
Over the years Valdes has faced Manchester United a number of times, from his early days when he went up against Roy Keane and co to the more recent times - including two Champions League triumphs over many players he will now be training with in the future.
Here is a selection of those moments...
