For two years between 2011 and 2013, Diego Costa and Radamel Falcao were teammates, but they will be rivals when Manchester United take on Chelsea at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday (if they are fit to play).
Costa and Falcao played together for two years for Atletico Madrid (although the former was loaned out to Rayo Vallecano for a spell during that period). During their time together at the Spanish champions, the duo won the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Super Cup.
Falcao, who joined United from AS Monaco on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day, was the star of the Atletico team during those two years, leading them to Europa League success in 2012 just a year after winning the same competition with FC Porto.
Costa was largely in the shadows of Falcao during those two years, but following the Colombia international striker’s departure to Monaco last summer, the 26-year-old found his rhythm.
The Spain international was arguably the best striker in Europe last season and was key in Atletico winning La Liga. In the summer, Costa moved to Chelsea and has been in superb form in the Premier League so far, scoring nine goals and creating 11 chances in seven league appearances.
