Real Madrid defeated Barcelona 3-1 at The Bernabeu this evening.
As per usual El Clasico lived up to its name. Barcelona and Real Madrid played out a thoroughly entertaining fixture at The Bernabeu - with Real Madrid the worthy winners after a frenetic display.
Barcelona had not conceded a goal in La Liga until tonight, but by the end of the 90 minutes Claudio Bravo had picked the ball out of the net three times.
Of course before the game much of the talk was about Luis Suarez's debut. The former Liverpool striker was named in the team from the start. He has been banned until now, after biting Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup, after which he left Liverpool for the Nou Camp.
He showed why Liverpool miss him early on. His pass set up Neymar early in the game. The Brazilian tucked in from the left before smashing a strike beyond Iker Casillas in the Real goal for a 1-0 lead.
However Real were always on top. Left-back Marcelo was superb, putting in a swashbuckling performance to earn man-of-the match.Gerard Pique was unlucky to give away a penalty for Real's first. He slid in to block a cross which came off his hand, penalty given, Ronaldo stepped up - the rest is predictable. 1-1.
Real were the better team on the night. Their counter attacking football often left Barca chasing shadows and when Pepe headed home a Toni Kroos corner Real had their deserved lead.
The game was finished off with a marauding break. poor play from Dani Alves allowed Isco to steal in. He marched forward before the ball was eventually worked to Karim Benzema - who put the game beyond doubt.
Suarez had some complaints over a potential foul not long before the goal. The ex-Liverpool man was withdrawn shortly after for Pedro - to close out an unhappy debut for his new club.
